Information on Battery Disposal

In connection with the supply of devices containing batteries or rechargeable batteries, we are required to inform you of the following.

Obligation to return and return options

As an end user, you are legally obliged to return used batteries and rechargeable batteries. Disposal with household waste is not permitted.

Batteries and rechargeable batteries that we currently stock or have previously stocked as new products can be returned to our warehouse free of charge:

Mannayan GmbH & Co KG
Unterer Anger 15
80331 München

Independently of this, you can return used batteries free of charge at the public collection points of your municipality (e.g. recycling centre) or at battery retailers in your area.

Removal before disposal

If batteries or rechargeable batteries can be removed from the device, please remove them before disposing of the device and return them separately. For devices with permanently installed rechargeable batteries, please return the complete device – in this case, removal of the battery is carried out by qualified personnel.

Meaning of the symbols on batteries and rechargeable batteries

Crossed-out wheeled bin: The battery or rechargeable battery must not be disposed of with household waste but must be collected separately.

Where applicable, the chemical symbol of the heavy metal contained is shown below this symbol:

  • Pb = battery contains more than 0.004 % lead by mass
  • Cd = battery contains more than 0.002 % cadmium by mass
  • Hg = battery contains more than 0.0005 % mercury by mass

Safety information for handling lithium batteries and rechargeable batteries

Damaged, deformed, swollen or visibly defective lithium batteries and rechargeable batteries can heat up considerably and catch fire. Please therefore observe the following:

  • Tape over the terminals or contacts before returning them in order to prevent short circuits.
  • Do not open, puncture or deform batteries and rechargeable batteries.
  • Store damaged rechargeable batteries separately, not inside living areas and not in the immediate vicinity of flammable materials, and hand them in as soon as possible.
  • When handing them in, explicitly inform the collection point that the battery is damaged.
  • Due to transport restrictions, damaged or defective lithium batteries must not be sent by post or parcel service. Please therefore do not return these to us by mail, but hand them in at a local collection point.

Your contribution to waste prevention and reuse

You can extend the service life of your batteries and rechargeable batteries and thereby help prevent waste:

  • Follow the instructions on charging, storage and operating temperature provided in the product information.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to heat and complete deep discharge.
  • Use only suitable chargers in accordance with the product information.
  • For devices with a replaceable rechargeable battery, replacing the battery can considerably extend the service life of the device.

Why separate collection matters

Waste batteries and rechargeable batteries that are collected separately can be treated and recycled properly. Raw materials they contain, such as lithium, nickel, cobalt or lead, can be recovered and made available for production again. If batteries end up in residual waste, these raw materials are lost; in addition, lithium batteries in particular can cause fires in collection vehicles and sorting facilities.

Environmental and health risks of improper disposal

Substances contained in batteries and rechargeable batteries, in particular heavy metals, can contaminate soil and water and endanger human health if disposed of improperly – for example with household waste or by being discarded in the environment. By returning them properly, you make an important contribution to protecting the environment and health.
